
KNOCKHACKS
KNOCKHACKS was one of my favourite projects to date.
It was the design prototyping project from my first year at AIE. It was the first project I properly got into scripting for, and it was my first experience with 2D development in unity.
The brief was essentially to design anything physics based, so I created a smash-like fighter, where players were given the chance to pick 3 abilities before the game starts, then are able to fight each other - cycling through each of their chosen abilities each time they attack. These abilities were known as HACKS, and had a large amount of knockback - bringing us the name of the game.
Potentially one of the largest points for this project was the development and relative success of Bopl Battle a few months after it was complete. Bopl Battle follows pretty much the same gameplay loop as KNOCKHACKS, featuring the same key mechanic, and is a lot of fun. I was extremely happy to see such a similar concept release, as it was incredibly validating of the design Iād originally come up with.
Throughout this project, I developed my skills in C# exponentially, learned how to use the unity particle system to a rudimentary level, learned how to implement both built-in and custom made physics in unity and discovered post-processing effects.
